GROWTH PLANS/SPECIAL FEATURES
AT&T, Inc. is one of the world’s largest providers of diversified telecommunications services. The company and its subsidiaries deliver a portfolio of wireless communications; local exchange services; long-distance services; data and broadband and Internet services; video services; telecommunications equipment; managed networking; wholesale services; and directory advertising and publishing services. The company operates through three segments: wireless, wireline and other. The wireless segment, operating through AT&T Mobility, provides wireless voice communications services to business and consumer customers. It is one of the nation’s largest wireless carriers, serving 103 million customers. The wireline segment provides retail and wholesale communication services, including voice and data services, domestically and internationally. Additionally, this segment includes AT&T’s Virtual Private Network (VPN); Voice over IP (VoIP) services; application management; web hosting; security and integration services; outsourcing; government-related services; and satellite video services; as well as its AT&T U-Verse high-speed broadband and TV services. The other segment primarily includes customer information services and all corporate and other operations. In April 2011, AT&T announced the sale of its 49% stake in the Mexican telecom company Alestra, S. de R.L. de C.V. to ALFA, S.A.B. de C.V. In June of the same year, the firm announced the acquisition of a 34% stake in Cincinnati SMSA and a 45% stake in Cincinnati SMSA Tower Holdings for approximately $320 million. Additionally, the company opened a new innovation center in Israel. In December 2011, the firm acquired 700 MHz (mega hertz) spectrum licenses from Qualcomm. In April 2012, AT&T sold its AT&T Advertising Solutions and AT&T Interactive business units.
