Computer Software-Health Care

Medical Information Technology, Inc. (MEDITECH) develops and markets information system software for the health care industry. MEDITECH’s software products automate a variety of hospital functions, as well as providing venue-specific products for long-term care facilities, ambulatory care centers, acute-care hospitals, emergency room management, pharmacies, imaging and therapeutic service facilities and behavioral health facilities. The firm’s individual products can be operated in a stand-alone fashion, as well as integrated through the company’s proprietary MAGIC operating system. MEDITECH specifies aggregate components for each hospital and subsequently suggests typical configurations from selected hardware vendors pertaining to its software needs. The firm’s software products include Physician Care Manager, which allows doctors to review patient information, manage orders, sign records and document care through a single, unified desktop; Internet Management software, which manages Internet access throughout the hospital, integrates hospital-wide communications systems and handles system-wide data archiving; Patient Care Management software, which manages order entry, provides bedside medication verification, handles operating room management, provides nursing interface systems, creates enterprise medical records and provides patient education and discharge instructions; Clinical Laboratory software, which automates the performance of various diagnostic tests on blood and urine samples; and Patient Registration and Revenue Management software, which schedules, registers, checks for authorization and referrals and properly bills patients. In addition, the company’s corporate software can consolidate a hospital's human resources, staffing and scheduling, materials management, general accounting, budget forecasting, and quality and materials management operations.
