The firm’s integrated GeneChip microarray platform includes disposable DNA probe arrays consisting of nucleic acid sequences set out in an ordered, high density pattern; certain reagents for use with the probe arrays; a scanner and other instruments used to process the probe arrays; and software to analyze and manage genomic or genetic information obtained from the probe arrays. Additionally, the company markets CustomExpress and CustomSeq products, which enable its customers to design their own custom GeneChip expression arrays or a sequence of arrays for organisms of interest to them. In January 2008, Affymetrix acquired USB Corporation, an Ohio-based developer of molecular biology and biochemical reagent products. In December 2008, Affymetrix acquired Panomics, Inc., a provider of assay products for a variety of low- to mid-plex genetic, protein and cellular analysis applications.
